How To Comment

We have been asked a few times how to comment. Initially we had it set for only authenticated comments; anonymous is now enabled. After giving it a quick test run, it turns out it's actually a bit more involved to comment than one might expect so we're posting instructions.

To comment on a blog post you need to:

• Load http://rptripnotes.blogspot.com/ 
  

• Open the actual blog posting

• Click on either the title entry or the "X comments" link at the bottom

• Your browser address bar should now show a URL similar to http://rptripnotes.blogspot.com/year#/month#/post-title.html
• For example, http://rptripnotes.blogspot.com/2009/11/qing-not-kiss.html
  

• Scroll to the bottom of the posting and locate the comment controls
• Enter your comment
• Open the "Select profile..." box. Unless you know you have one of the other profile types, pick:
• Google Account if you have a google account. Any GMail account is a Google Account so if you use GMail this will work for you.
• Name/URL if you want to post and have it show up with a name you get to type in
  
• Anonymous if you want to post without showing a name

• Click "Preview"
  
• If you chose Google Account as your profile type:
  
• You may see an error the first time you click preview. If you see something similar to the picture below, just click preview again

• You should be taken to a login screen similar to the picture below; login using the same user/password you use for your gmail account. 

• You should see a preview of your post, similar to the picture below. If all looks well, click Post Comment to post it

• All done; you should now see your posted comment!

• If you chose Name/URL as your account type
• You should immediately be prompted for name and url, similar to the picture below

• Enter the name you would like to show up, enter a URL if you have a personal website you'd like to link back to or just leave URL blank and click Continue
• You will be asked to type a word shown in an image to confirm you are a real person and not an automated spammer

• Enter the word shown and click Post Comment. You should see your posted comment, similar to the picture below

• All done!
  

• If you chose Anonymous as your profile type:
• Click Preview
• You should be prompted to type a verification word, similar to the picture below to verify you are a real person

• Enter the verification word and click Post Comment
• Enter the word shown and click Post Comment. You should see your posted comment, similar to the picture below

• All Done!
